The fastest way to improve your playing!

I was interested in this book because I had attended a Modern Drummer Fest Master Class with Jim and was blown away by his abilities for playing and enthusiasm to teach. I had also seen some of the demo vids that Jim put out on the drumless tracks and thought the music was authentic to the style and wanted to play along to see how well I could play them too. In particular, I now play a lot of country music, because of where I live, and always felt that I had some QC problems with some of my Country Chops. Checking out the suggested patterns and recording myself playing to the tracks really was a totally downer but it gave me a reference point on how I needed to adjust my groove to fit the music better. The variety of styles covered in the book is comprehensive so you won't be bored anytime soon. This is a true bargain at 17 bucks for all the tracks you get and the ink used to print all those pages. I have some other Bible books, which are solid, but I have found this one is the most useful in improving my playing. Giddy on up and click the Add To Cart Button!

Modern Groove Encyclopedia

Wonderful Book! The Backing tracks alone are worth the price of this! Think of this as an encyclopedia of modern drum grooves. I have already used it myself and for my drum set students. This book comes with over 100 backing tracks and audio examples of the grooves being played. The quality of the backing tracks is great and they sound very authentic. I recommend this book for anyone playing drums today!

Basic overview of the history of English literature and language, followed by thumbnail sketches of lasting English novels that have never been out of print. Burgess was never without something insightful and interesting to say, whether in interviews or in this basic introduction to the subject. However, reviews and commentary are limited to specifically English novels and novelists, that is, the novelists of Great Britain, e.g. Lawrence, Austen, Woolf, Waugh, Carey, Maugham, etc. Nothing on American-English authors such as Twain, Faulkner, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, etc.

About the Author
Hailing from a family of Siddha medicine practitioners and being influenced by ancient matters from childhood, P Karthigayan, the author, had many pressing questions on creation, nature, gods, fate, etc. His attempts to understand these oft-debated topics related to society led him to be interested in mythologies, folklore, ancient literature, religious scripts, medical notes and finally Siddhas' works, including their seemingly religious renderings. He felt that most of the scripts of Siddhas were not transparent and had some secret teachings interlaced in them that led him to research other spheres of knowledge related to his quest.

His quest for truth in this line of study necessitated him to an in-depth study of Indian, as well as international, mythical works and other related writings with newer insights.

He believes that his writings will enlighten the ones, who seek knowledge in the fields of health care, spiritualism, ancient wisdom, histories of the ancient and mythological times, etc. It would also serve as a valuable reference work on ancient matters.

These heartfelt and ego-free sentiments… will provide the reader with a notice that you’re about to read a sports autobiography that comes from a much different shelf… than the overflowing one filled with mindless… me… me… mantra… of countless athletes.

As the story begins in childhood… the reader at first will think that the writing has an “infantile” feel to it… then as it continues… you’ll slowly start to realize… that the telling of the story is as if you’re actually inside young “June” (Julius’s nickname with family members… short for Junior)… and you’re actually looking through his eyes… you even feel as if you’re his size… as he continues to jump… and jump.. and jump… trying to be able to look out the window in his home. The love between all members of the Erving family is both touching and nostalgic. The lessons that come along with the love from “The Doctor’s” Mother… reminds you of the way America used to be… and at least the way you wish it to be now. Along with an older sister… there’s a Father not in his daily life… and who dies young… there is also younger brother Marky… who is sickly… and idolizes Julius… and not only lives through his older brother’s accomplishments… but deluges June with questions on all subjects. Julius is Marky’s protector… and he loves him so deeply… that his short life of illness… is one of the tragedies that will never leave The Doctor’s soul for all eternity.

Order… Order… Order…

You’ll come to appreciate that Erving loves order in his life… everywhere! His pencils need to be in order… his clothes need to be in order… he loves sports because there is an order to it. Order… Order… Order! Regarding basketball… “What I have is powerful and easily observed love for the game.”

He is always jumping… rising up… jumping… rising up! His coaches become Father figures… whether in “sal” ball (Salvation Army)… high school… or college. Despite his playground machismo and artistry… he also likes the plays… the signals from the coach… the order. Growing up in the tumultuous sixties… The Doctor… refuses to hate… despite bigotry… despite continuous pressure from those around him. His evolving into a playground legend… is once again written as if you’re viewing it through his very eyes. The basketball accomplishments that probably every reader is aware of is definitely covered in this book… but it becomes secondary… to the man… the person… the gentleman… the American… the class act… that even during shortcomings… and moments of weakness… Julius Erving one way or another eventually paints with class. He doesn’t blame other people… he not only stands up… he rises… he rises… up!

The writing… really seems more than mere writing… in this book. I don’t know if a scholar would call it first person… second person… narrative… I just don’t know. What I do know… it’s like poetry… with its own flowing rhythm… and a view from the reader’s eyes… into Erving’s heart… and out through his eyes… for a panoramic absorption of The Doctor’s lifetime experiences… and emotions.

I am the same age as Julius… I was born in the same part of the country as Julius… basketball was as big a part of my life as his… and the individual basketball exploits shared… I was definitely looking forward to when I bought this book… I am especially pleased … that younger readers will get an education regarding one very important historical fact. Basketball didn’t start and end with Michael Jordan… before Jordan there was The Doctor… and before The Doctor… there was Elgin Baylor… and I’m ever so glad… that Julius makes it perfectly clear… that it was Elgin Baylor that inspired him to pattern his play after… jumping… jumping… rising up!

But… in the end… the power… and dignity… of this book… is not the basketball… it’s the man… Julius Erving!

Probably the best sports autobiography I have ever read, and I have read a lot of them. It's a page turner and really emotional. It gave me a lot of insights into the man, the times, and especially, the game. I bought 5 of 'em to give to the ballers I play with. Just great.

He is one of the Greatest Basketball Players and also a very down to earth Brother. no matter what the term you use, be it Swag, Cool, Cold, Smooth Dr J was that cat who had it like that. now this Book Covers his Career and what happen off the court, various Ups and downs and what shaped up his life then and now. he left a mark on and off the court. He was a Black SuperStar in an Era where there weren't a whole lot as you have now. he broke alot of Ground. Doc was so Badd He made the NBA come to him and Bring him there. Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkens, Vince Carter, Kobe Bryant, Dwayne wade, Lebron James amongest others owe a debt to the Greatness and Ground Breaking Player that Dr J Julius Erving was.

Best Sex Advice

I would highly recommend Great In Bed. Reading this book does not mean you are not good at sex, but rather that you want to make it as good as it can be. The information in the book can enhance any persons time in bed.

I especially find the fact that it is co-authored by a man and woman beneficial. This is why Great In Bed is different than other sex advice books and makes it better.

For stupid dummies

For stupid dummies; not just regular dummies; but the real duh duh kind who are mouth breathers needing to be told things like "objects in the mirror are closer than they appear." Or bigger or smellier. This book reads like a Cosmo article for the mentally deficient, which is redundant. I cannot convey how offensive I found this book's soulless chirpy simplicity. I am giving it two stars though because it gave my husband a boner. The End.

Mini prints of Rackham's Fairy Tale Illustrations

This slim book presents 55 of Arthur Rackham's fairy tale illustrations from several of his books. The illustrations are reproduced on high quality paper. Almost every image is at least 5x7 or 6x8 inches in size and suitable for framing. While I don't usually recommend deconstructing books for their illustrations, this book is well-suited for the purpose and preferable to taking apart an older book for its plates. No fairy tales are presented, just the illustrations with their titles and sources. If you are a Rackham fan, buy one copy to take apart for framing and another one to keep on your bookshelf. Most of these illustrations are not available in any size for art prints. Many of the illustrations are not available in print in any other source at this time except for the original antique books in which they appeared.

I heartily concur with the estimations of Rackham's value to the area of children's book illustrations. Look for Rackham's Mother Goose and Alice in Wonderland from Chancellor Press to introduce your little ones to his illustrations is book form, as well as Favorite Tales From Grimm. But my desire here is to point out the true color found in this collection of Rackham's illustrations. Beware, as some books republished with his pictures do not capture the subtlety of his use of color. He used dark colors and gently colored objects in all of his pictures. This book, along with Dover's other Rackham collections show his work in all its glory, the subtle and the grotesque simultaneously. A delight for any collector of Rackham, suitable for framing.

Analytical Chemistry: A Chemist and Laboratory Technician's Toolkit provides an introduction to the laboratory including safety and lab basics, and then moves through the fundamentals of analytical techniques such as spectroscopy and chromatography, most common lab instrumentation, and examples of laboratory programs such as laboratory information management systems (LIMS).  

Also included is a teaching companion, reference, and toolkit program called ChemTech. The ChemTech program contains lesson exercises that stress and review topics covered in the book. Also included are useful calculators, an interactive periodic table, and a copy of all of the chapters of the book that can be opened and read on a computer or other electronic devices.

Aihui MaHam, Ph.D., is an expert in nano-materials including the synthesis and characterization of chemical and biological nano-sensors. She is also an expert in the field of inorganic materials chemistry, and their characterization utilizing methodologies such as SEM, XRD, XRF and OES. She has published numerous research papers including a recent review entitled Protein-Based Nanomedicine Platforms for Drug Delivery (Small, 2009), which has been cited over 170 times by other researchers. She is currently working for the Department of Homeland Security at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection New York Laboratory.
