My understanding is that this Siddur (Order of Service) for Conservative congregations is being revised. Still in use, however, and the smaller, lighter-weight Siddur is a pleasure to have and carry to shul.

This volume consists of lectures delivered during my tenure of the Chair of Poetry at Oxford and not included in Shakespearean Tragedy. Most of them have been enlarged, and all have been revised. As they were given at intervals, and the majority before the publication of that book, they contained repetitions which I have not found it possible wholly to remove. Readers of a lecture published by the University of Manchester on English Poetry and German Philosophy in the Age of Wordsworth will pardon also the restatement of some ideas expressed in it.

The several lectures are dated, as I have been unable to take account of most of the literature on their subjects published since they were delivered.

They are arranged in the order that seems best to me, but it is of importance only in the case of the four which deal with the poets of Wordsworth's time.

About the Author
Andrew Cecil Bradley was born in 1851 in Cheltenham. He was the son of a clergyman and the younger brother of the philosopher F.H. Bradley. He received his education at Cheltenham College and at Balliol College, Oxford, where he became a fellow in 1874, lecturing in Philosophy and English. In 1882 Bradley became the first Professor of Literature and History at Liverpool, and later on Professor of English Language and Literature at Glasgow from 1890, and Professor of Poetry at Oxford from 1901 until 1906, when he retired from academic life.

The master critic on Shakespeare, Keats, Shelley, Wordsworth

This set of essays by the master Shakespeare critic A.C. Bradley contains essays on :Poetry for Poetry's Sake, The Sublime, Hegel's Theory of Tragedy, Wordsworth, Shelley's View of Poetry, The Long Poem in the Age of Wordsworth, The Letters of Keats, The Rejection of Falstaff, Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare the Man, Shakespeare's Theatre and Audience.
I especially enjoyed the essay on Keats where Bradley focuses on the meaning of Beauty in Keats' letters. His appreciation of the remarkable character of Keats and how this is reflected both in the Letters and the Poems is instructive. The essay on Shakespeare the Man I found a bit speculative , yet another attempt to say something about the character of the character who mastered and made so many different characters. It is interesting that Bradley believes that Shakespeare is the poet who best exemplified Keats' prescription for what a poet ideally should be, one whose negative capability means he is within and without all the characters he creates. The essay on Wordsworth focuses on his originality especially in finding in the simplicities of daily life, and in simple characters the deepest expressions of human soul.
But there is much more than I have indicated here . This is a classic set of essays by one of the English literary traditions, most important critics.

A C Bradley at his best

I am a fan of the writings of A C Bradley, in my mind the finest critic of William Shakespeare. As opposed to "Shakesperean Tragedy". his epic, this book contains criticism of authors other than Shakespeare, although his criticism of Anthony and Cleopatra is superb. Any one who enjoys Shakesperean criticism will, I think, find much to enjoy in this book.

I needed this to make sense of the landscape

We toured the "red rock" parks of southern and western Utah this summer. I needed and wanted to understand how these layered and wonderfully colored rocks came to be in the formations that I knew we would soon see. It was very helpful and understandable, but hard slogging for a beginner in geology. I was grateful that I read it before we actually saw the landscape. The parks and landscapes were jaw-dropping awesome, and made more so because I had an inkling of how they had come to be over such a long time.

A more up-to-date version is available, so don't buy this one.

I bought this book and another one written by the same author. The title of the other book is :Geological Evolution of the Colorado Plateau of Eastern Utah and Western Colorado [Paperback].

The latter was published in 2010 and its content is thoroughly revised from the earlier version. So if you'd like to get a clear picture on the geological evolution of the area, buy the new version.

Very emotional!

An opera was written for this story, and it is playing in the theatre where my husband works. He had actually ordered the book for my 14-year-old, but it was I who picked it up and started reading. It's a very heart wrenching book about dying from the perspective of this young boy named Oscar--a beautiful and unforgettable story that will bring you to tears.

A new way to network

As someone who hates to "network," I found the advice in Click to be a godsend. Click completely changed the way I think about networking--instead of approaching someone with the mentality of "what can I get out of them," you learn to approach people with the mentality of "What can I give to them? How can I make this realtionship click?" As a result, networking goes from being a self-seeking exercise to a self-enhancing one. It's truly changed the way I think when I meet people for the first time--a must read.

Solid fundamentals

Fraser hits the high points: be nice to everyone; be positive; see the good in people and say it. His section on holding your tongue when provoked is excellent. He quotes Sartre to great effect: "Words are loaded pistols." And he has an interesting take on your network: if you are the smartest person in it, you are building it the wrong way. Good point.

Building upon the Golden Rule...

Click provides a common sense approach toward improving your relationships with clients, stakeholders, team members, folks in your network, as well as friends and family.

As the title suggests, the author provides ten "truths" for interacting and developing your relationships with others, and uses quotes and experiences from individuals as diverse as Gandhi and Reverend Wright to illustrate his points.

Initially, I thought this was a repackaging of the concept of the Golden Rule. It is, but it's much more than that. Click is a set of guidelines with helpful metaphors and truisms to help you relate more effectively and completely with others, and to feel good about doing it.

Several areas which made me think more deeply about interpersonal dynamics included:

- A section on pruning relationships that are not positive in an effective and nontoxic manner to focus renewed energy on more mutually beneficial relationships. While (hopefully) rare, these experiences can be unsettling, and the author's perspective was helpful to consider.

- Being open to everything and attached to nothing, which makes it easier to consider, appreciate, and support the contributions of others while strengthening the bonds of effective teams and connections.

- The concept of Trust First -- Distrust Must Be Earned, helps to set aside preconditioned notions to look at each new situation with a fresh and open perspective.

In my business endeavors, I'm building relationships with people who know that I represent a vendor and support its sales and delivery mission. Click has augmented my skills to help me more effectively explore approaches to interact with my connections in new ways for their benefit, which in turn I'm sure will come back to me in a positive way.

The message is genuine, helpful, and generates as many positive feelings in the practitioner as it does in the recipient. If you can get that from a book, it's worth it.

Coaching to boost your personal presence

Let me preface my comments by pointing out that I have never read a book focused in this arena before. Honestly, I have seen a number of books promoted in a manner similar to Creating Personal Presence and have been turned off simply because they appeared to focus on rudimentary or superficial issues when it came to the idea of becoming a more successful entity in a corporate sense. That being said, I was extremely impressed with both the depth and positive nuance of Creating Personal Presence. I was surprised at how captivated I became with the content of the text and how easy it was to draw correlations between the examples in the book and the realities of my own performance.

I envision the book as a primer in teaching leaders the ability to develop the personal skills required of a leader. I've managed core groups of leadership (in the Army) who are responsible for ensuring the well-being of different aspects of company operations. While I am always blown away by the technical competency of those I've worked with, I find myself constantly having to work with some of my most proficient section leaders in learning how to present themselves properly as a leader as well as how to project authority through their presence. I would love to be able to assign Creating Personal Presence as a resource to assist my management in developing the interpersonal skills that allow them to translate their competence into holistic leadership abilities.

I felt that the material was presented in a manner that was balanced in terms of maintaining a positive and encouraging atmosphere while at the same time demanding improved performance. Booher avoids blame and instead focused on how to develop leadership despite individual circumstances. I enjoyed that the book assumes an amount of personal success on behalf of the reader dodging the ever looming "bootstraps" mentality. I found that by starting from a level at which technical competence was assumed allowed the book to be more inviting. Overall the material had more of a coaching/mentoring feel to it.

I like that the book incorporates the author's research into the field citing the exact nature of specific studies and even including the questions posed to those interviewed. I think these add weight to the ideas presented and clarify the author's authority in the field. The narratives do an excellent job of creating opportunities for personal introspection and add entertainment value to the text. I found myself drawing similarities between my own performance and the characters discussed.

I found that the book addressed a topic that I struggle with both in my actual job and in my Army career... that is learning to convey what I know in a manner that other people flock to. It's one thing to know a field, but it's another to be able to convey that knowledge. The book does a terrific job of explaining presence and why it's important to advance in the work place.

While working in the field of education for more than 30 years, I developed an understanding of the importance of personal presence in any presentation. Whether presenting a lesson to a high school Algebra class or trying to persuade administrators and board members to include a new course in the district's curriculum or discussing student issues with a parent--your presence sets the stage. After reading Dianna Booher's new book, Creating Personal Presence: Look, Talk, Think, and Act Like a Leader, I was excited to find such a great resource for improving personal presence. Great book for content review!

I really wanted a hard copy of the e-book included with the Kaplan course in order to highlight and take notes but was hesitant to order it based on the previous review that this book was different. After struggling with the decision for a few days, I finally decided to go for it and I am very glad I did! It is the exact same as the e-book included in the Kaplan NCLEX course, which is extremely helpful! For those of you who have not taken the Kaplan course, this book basically breaks down the most essential information from various textbooks and organizes it into the structure of the NCLEX test. I have found it considerably helpful in reviewing material for the NCLEX and definitely recommend this book for content review! That being said, this book is strictly a content review guide - it does not include any NCLEX-style practice questions or tests.

This helped me passed the NCLEX on the first try. I used other resources, so I don't recommend just going through this book to prepare for the NCLEX. The topics were not in the same order as the content videos (if you paid for a Kaplan course then you know what I am talking about). I couldn't even find some of the topics in this book that were in the content video library. Also, there were a lot of misspelled words, so I felt like someone just printed off their pdf study guide and started selling this.

Like the review and reading at my leisure. Only complaint is the size of my kindle didn't accommodate all of the charts, so I had to swipe back and forth. Otherwise the charts, formats, an information were direct. I'm sure it helped because I recognized teaching points I had seen in questions. The questions and rationales made more sense after reading this.

I am loving this book. I had some prior knowledge of Java and this book is making a lot more concepts clear that weren't that clear before. Thank you so much to the author. I plan to finish the book as soon as I can to appear for my OCA first and then my OCP exam.

About the Author

Major (honorably retired as of April 2010) Michael Ronczkowski served the citizens of Miami-Dade County Florida and Miami-Dade Police Department for nearly 27 years. He rose through all the Civil Service Ranks serving as a Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain before his appointment to Major in the spring of 2006. His assignments consisted of 19 years of investigations to include; burglary, auto theft, assault, robbery, fugitives and homeland security which included the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

Major Ronczkowski retired after serving four years as the Department’s Homeland Security Bureau Commander and Director of the Miami-Dade Fusion Center a DHS recognized center that he initiated. He commanded and managed 80 multi-discipline personnel on homeland security and terrorism-related investigations at the Fusion Center which served South Florida. Major Ronczkowski also served as the Chair of the County’s Terrorism Advisory Committee (TAC), member of the Southeast Regional Domestic Security Task Force (SERDSTF), Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant Program and Urban Area Work Group (UAWG) board member for Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, and Major Cities Chiefs Association Intelligence Commanders Group advisor. He also maintained high level national security clearances and credentials with the Miami Office of the FBI JTTF. Major Ronczkowski has testified before both the U.S. Senate and Congress on matters related to Islamic Extremism and Emergency Response.

Major Ronczkowski holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University as well as being a graduate of the FBI’s National Academy, Session 217. He is the author of several publications to include two text books published with CRC Press titled Terrorism and Organized Hate Crime and co-author of the article Tactical / Investigative Analysis of Targeted Crimes, published by the National Institute of Justice in the Advanced Crime Mapping Topics book sponsored by the Crime Mapping and Analysis Program as well as three contributing articles for various encyclopedias. Major Ronczkowski is also an established instructor on matters related to homeland security, intelligence, analysis, and a certified GIS instructor with ESRI. He served eight years as an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University teaching terrorism and has been an instructor for the Alpha Group Center for Crime and Intelligence Analysis for nearly 10 years.
